Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonics and Quantum Technologies Symposium 2018

The 2018 Dodd Walls Centre (DWC Symposium held on 27 to 29 June was a great success for the Biophotonics research group. There were six posters presented by Sam Hitchman, Abi Thampi, Matthew, Goodwin Joni White, Magda Urbanska and Mykola Zlygostiev which demonstrated the excellence and variety of research taking place. In addition, Rachel (Fang Ou) gave a talk on “Near real time monitoring of live to dead bacterial cell ratios.” The Symposium ended on a high with both Abi and Joni winning a DWC award of $1000 each for the best poster presentation. NZFSSRC Annual Symposium and the NZIFST Annual Conference

Dr Frederique Vanholsbeeck, Abi Thampi and Joni White attended the NZ Food Safety Science & Research Centre (NZFSSRC) Annual Symposium and the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology (NZIFST) Annual Conference at the Distinction Hotel, Te Rapa, Hamilton. Frederique gave an invited talk on the FoodSafe project titled “Real time bacterial enumeration and detection using spectroscopic fluorescence method." Joni won an award for the best 3-minute thesis competition at the NZFSSRC AGM and Abi won an award for the best poster presentation at the NZIFST Conference. Both students secured a grant from the Food and Health Programme to attend the Conferencee and the excellence of research
